At Meadow, we love collaborating with our amazing community, highlighting different breast cancer journeys, and amplifying the voices of incredible creators and artists. Our latest collaboration with artist Sandra Curitore is all about celebrating creativity, resilience, and the beautiful strength of survivors.
Meet Sandra Curitore
Sandra (Cho) Curitore is a Korean American artist, art director, breast cancer survivor, wife, and mother living in LA. An alumna of Otis College of Art and Design, Sandra rocked the beauty industry for over 20 years, eventually becoming a Creative Director.
In 2022, Sandra’s career took an unexpected turn when she was laid off. But this fierce survivor wasn’t fazed. Having battled and survived stage 3 breast cancer just before the pandemic, Sandra embraced a new outlook on life. She pivoted to focus on acrylic painting and collaborating with other artists. Inspired by her family, nature, and all things colorful, Sandra’s creativity blossomed into stunning fine art pieces.
The Heart Boob Necklaces
Our collaboration with Sandra brought forward the fabulous handmade, hand-painted heart boob necklaces. These beauties are a heartfelt tribute to breast cancer survivors, symbolizing resilience and strength. Crafted with love and care, each necklace reflects powerful stories of survival and hope, featuring surgery scars representing different modes of survivorship. And guess what? Our community is totally smitten with them!
Conversations with Meadow: Live Session Recap
As part of our Conversations with Meadow series, we hosted a live session with Sandra to chat about the collab. It was an inspiring and fun-filled discussion where Sandra shared her artistic journey and the inspiration behind the heart boob necklaces.
We were also joined by Carley, an awesome 25-year-old two-time cancer survivor currently undergoing long-term treatment for breast cancer. Carley, who proudly calls herself a breast cancer ‘big sister,’ shared her extensive knowledge and resources. She talked about her unique breast cancer surgery, involving breast amputation and reconstruction with omental tissue transfer—a fairly new procedure with only about 100 recipients nationwide.
Carley’s passion for equal access to surgery options and open patient-to-health professional conversations has led her to a thriving advocacy career. Alongside her health journey, she works as a multimedia artist and pottery teacher in San Diego, CA. Her experiences added a personal and inspiring layer to the session.
Join Us in Celebrating Creativity and Resilience
The live session was a fab showcase of how art can heal and the incredible strength of the breast cancer community, and you can watch it here. We at Meadow are beyond excited to keep collaborating with amazing individuals like Sandra and Carley.
There’s so much more in store, and we can’t wait to share it with you! Want to collaborate with us or learn more about our initiatives? Hit us up! Together, we can create, inspire, and support one another.
